Learning other people's stories inspires my own work. The images and words I use are taken from my writing, literature, multicultural folklore, history and my experiences. The children’s books I write and illustrate and the paintings I make are also inspired by much of the same material. I am particularly inspired by people's stories about their quests for physical, spiritual and artistic freedom. My Story Rugs are woolen, hand-knotted, limited edition, designs. They are child labor free and have the validating Rug Mark label on the back. The fact that I collaborate with a Tibetan Buddhist family to produce my rugs is crucial to the medium and the message of my work. They are Tibetan rugs in technique and in origin and I feel that I am their partner in service of helping to promote their freedom and prosperity. It's an honor and privilege to be able to use art as a vehicle for freedom. So much of my work is about issues of freedom. |
| My work strives for a spiritual and practical partnership. It's about ethnic repression and freedom of expression, using my abilities as a tool to create beauty and a better quality of life. I hope through my work, I am able to contribute to making our world a better home for our children as they prepare to become its caretakers and decision makers. Dale Gottlieb |
