Donald Louthian received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. in drawing and painting from the University of Kansas. He also studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Instituto Allende in Mexico.

He served eight years as head of the art department at Baker University and has lectured in art at San Jose State University. He is currently self-employed as a painter.

During his career, Louthian has received numerous awards and honors. Some are: Purchase Award; Palo Alto Arts Festival; Watercolor USA Purchase Award; Selected to represent the middle-west, Four Young Americans, V, Art Museum, Rhode Island School of Design; Residence/ Scholarship Grant, Montalvo association, Saratoga, CA. In 1985, he was invited to become a member of the watercolor USA Honor Society.

Louthian’s paintings have been included in group and one-man exhibits in New York, San Francisco, Mendocino, Washington D.C., Seattle, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Santa Fe, Houston, and many other locations.

Some of the collections in which his work may be found are: Kalamazoo Institute of Art, Utah State University, Springfield Art Museum, University of Maine, Ottowa University, Apple Computer, Hyatt Hotels, Henry Ford, II, Castle and Cooke, Price Waterhouse, Clorox, Welton Becket Assoc., Digitel, and Tandem Computers.
