Jeffrey Brown, a self-taught artist and metal smith, has, for many years been fascinated with fire and metals. For nearly 25 years he was a studio jeweler producing one- of- a -kind pieces inspired by natural shapes and forms. This latest work carries the shapes, textures, patinas, and the sense of nature from his jewelry into sculpture. The vessels, made from sheets of bronze, steel and copper, simplify the body to create distinct freestanding works designed to function as vases. Working on a larger scale, with heavier materials and industrial tools creates the challenge of keeping these pieces both intimate and elegant.
